You will be accompanied by the Guide who will accompany you in the visit and in the history of this Park. Going up the avenue, immediately on the left you come across a piperno aedicule with two plaques placed in 1668 by the viceroy Pietro Antonio d'Aragona. The tombstones list the thermal springs present in the Phlegraean area from Fuorigrotta to Pozzuoli. Continuing uphill we will find ourselves in front of an enormous marble monument: the tomb of the famous poet Giacomo Leopardi. Died in Naples and initially buried in the old church of San Vitale Martire in Fuorigrotta, he was then transferred here on 22 February 1939. On the stele, engraved on the stone, is the signature of King Vittorio Emanuele III. Also nearby is the first sepulchral monument, previously placed in the pronaos of the church of San Vitale. Continuing we find the Crypta Neapolitana, a cave dug in Roman times (currently not open to visitors) that connects the Fuorigrotta district with that of Mergellina. Continuing we arrive at the place of maximum suggestion and charm, the cenotaph of Vergilius, a columbarium from the Roman age, traditionally considered the tomb of the poet. For those who want (not suitable for people with walking problems) there is a further stretch that climbs up the hill via a staircase, from which you can enjoy a splendid view of Naples. The entire park is dotted with native plants and not, so much so as to make it a true naturalistic path.
