House Walli-Simmen, Apartment 1
A walk through the centuries
The flat with a separate entrance extends over the old part of the house and the newly converted stable. In the old part there is a parlour with original painted wood panelling and two spacious bedrooms for two people each. The sofa in the parlour can be converted into a comfortable bed, so that up to six people can be accommodated in the old part.
In the large eat-in kitchen is the old wood-fired cooker, next to which a modern kitchen has been installed that leaves nothing to be desired.
The new bathroom is located between the house and the stable. As a reminiscence of the vanished Fideris bathing culture, you will find a spacious shower and can warm up in the steam bath.
For groups of 6 people or more, additional sleeping facilities are available in the barn extension. A spacious bedroom for two people with table and seating area on the ground floor and a double room with WC/shower on the upper floor. This means that up to 10 people can stay in the flat when fully occupied. Thanks to its flexible layout, it is particularly suitable for two friendly families or for holidays with grandparents, for example, without having to give up your own privacy.
Internet access via W-LAN is a matter of course.
The house
The Walli-Simmen house was built in 1892 as a stately farmhouse and consists of a two-storey residential building and the former stable. We have lovingly revitalised both and attached great importance to preserving the original and historically valuable substance.
Fortunately, we found the former living quarters largely in their original state. We were able to preserve the old panelling, box windows, floorboards and tiled stoves and carefully restore them.
In order to meet today's requirements, we had new kitchens and bathrooms installed in addition to preserving the valuable existing features. The conversion and extension was completed in autumn 2022.
Additional space was created in the attic and stable: This extension has created two residential units that skilfully combine old and new and offer plenty of space for family and friends.
During our tidying work, numerous old objects were discovered that date back to the history of the farmhouse and remind us of its former inhabitants. We keep these artefacts in the "cold room" in the barn.
The furnishings consist of a few pieces of furniture from the house's past and contemporary design classics.
Fideris and the Fideriser Heuberge
Fideris lies at an altitude of around 900 metres on a sunny terrace above the valley. The townscape is characterised by Walser farmhouses and stately patrician buildings.
In late spring, summer and autumn, Fideris and the Fideriser Heuberge mountains are attractive starting points for walks or long hikes. In the Heuberge mountains, it is worth visiting the Clun lakes, for example, or taking a walk along the "Flower Trail", which draws attention to the alpine flora with information along the way.
The Fideriser Heuberge ski area lies at an altitude of around 2000 metres and has eleven pistes, three T-bar lifts and a children's and beginners' lift. The slopes are mainly of easy and medium difficulty.
The 12-kilometre-long toboggan run back to the village is particularly attractive. It is considered to be the longest in Switzerland and offers fun for the whole family.
The ski and toboggan area can be reached by shuttle buses that run every half hour.
Other winter sports resorts are also easily accessible from Fideris:
Grüsch-Danusa is a 10-minute drive away and Klosters is 15 minutes away. The Gotschnabahn railway takes you from here to the Davos Parsenn area.
The other Davos resorts, Flims, Laax and Arosa are also within easy reach.
Travelling by car
Fideris is easy to reach by car all year round. From Landquart, follow the signs to Davos/Klosters. After Schiers and Jenaz, soon turn right to Fideris. Access to the house is guaranteed all year round.
Travelling by train and post bus
Fideris is also easily accessible by train and post bus. The Rhaetian Railway runs from Landquart to Davos. In Schiers you can change to the post bus (221); after a short journey it stops in Fideris village about 50 metres from the house.
Pets are not allowed
Not allowed
Car park
In front of the house there is space for max. 3 cars for both flats. Please let us know in advance by which means of transport you will be travelling. There are other public car parks in the immediate vicinity.
Outdoor area
The space in front of the stable facing west is available for the lower ground floor flat.
The gravelled area in front of the main house to the south belongs to the flat on the upper floor/attic floor.
Garden tables and chairs are available. Please be considerate of the neighbours.
Heating
The building is equipped with a geothermal probe heating system, which is centrally controlled. You can adjust the room temperature as required using the radiators (bottom left).
Stove/Cheminée
Wood is in the ski cellar: Please read the instructions for use carefully before using a stove. The most important principle: Do not overload the firebox - it is better to use less wood and add more often, otherwise a lot of smoke may be produced.
Kitchen
Coffee: Moka (Bialetti, screw coffee) and Delonghi portafilter machine available. Bora induction hob, oven and large fridge with small freezer compartment, dishwasher (all V-Zug).
Important note
The Walli-Simmen house is a historic house, a listed building. The old room structure has been largely retained. The wooden floorboards correspond to the original construction method and have been used intensively for decades, and the house is not barrier-free. We would like to point out that the wooden floors in particular and the sometimes higher doorsteps harbour a certain source of danger. We strongly recommend that you wear good slippers.
Shopping/groceries
In the village of Fideris, in the immediate vicinity, there is the Volg supermarket, which has an attractive range of products for daily needs. There is also a village bakery offering local specialities.
In the villages of Schiers and Küblis, which can be reached in a few minutes by car, there are also various shops and shopping centres with a wide range of products.
Excursions
The Prättigau has a lot to offer. We recommend you take a look around, especially if you are not familiar with the area. There are wonderful landscapes to discover: whether on this side of the valley up into the Heuberge mountains with views towards Weissfluh and the Davos Parsenn area or to St. Antönien with its wide valleys and views of the Silvretta chain. Here and elsewhere, there are countless hikes, mountain bike trails and ski tours to discover.
Our philosophy
We invite you to find peace and relaxation in a historic building with contemporary comfort, in a place where old and new harmonise with each other in the furnishings.
Catering for yourself
Cooking is our passion. Each flat has an excellently equipped kitchen that offers the hobby chef almost every possibility. You can find the full kitchen equipment here.
Cleaning
The holiday flat is cleaned before your arrival. Towels and bed linen are already waiting for you. The full equipment of the holiday flat can be found here.
Equipment/ski cellar
No matter where and how you have spent your day outside, you can store your skis, snowboards and other equipment in the cellar.
There is a special heater for drying your ski boots, snowboard boots or hiking boots.
Winter sports
The valley station of the Fideriser Heubergen can be reached on foot in three minutes from the house. From here, small buses take you up to the ski lifts.
But no matter where you have spent your day in the snow, you can dry your ski boots, snowboard boots or hiking boots in the ski cellar on the heating provided for this purpose. There is plenty of space for your equipment here.
Other living room furnishings (living room 1): Historic parlour with painted wood panelling and large stove, which can be heated from the kitchen. The comfortable sofa bed comfortably sleeps two people.
