Could be a wonderful Square
Tuesday 10th May and we walked the short distance from the Balcón de Europa to this Square in the centre of Nerja.
Initially it looks a mighty impressive Plaza which is surrounded by bars, restaurants and shops with a number of floor of accommodation above them.
We entered the Plaza by walking through the grand entrance of the Town Hall archway. Near the entrance stands the tall clock tower, while a massive Spanish flag flies at the other. So all looking good.
On closer inspection it is very obvious that all is not well in the Plaza. A large number of the retail units were empty, boarded up or unfinished which gave the area a depressed and neglected feel, not a good look.
It seems like recent global events and lingering restrictions have taken their toll on this large Square.
Hopefully when restrictions are fully lifted and both National and local economies recovery that here will also recover and become a vibrant thriving place.

Big improvements
For obvious reasons, it has been a couple of years since we’ve been able to come here it was good to be back. The square has noticeably improved since we were last here and it seems as had a lot of investment in it.
There is still room for further improvement and it doesn’t have the usual family feel but this will come in time I’m sure.
It is a big place lined now with some great bars and restaurants and has become a favourite destination of ours. It also has the tourist information centre on its edge so that is useful.
