For Wildlife Lovers.
While visiting a forest, one of the aspects I look for is the stay. I like to stay near the forest, the closer the better. There are few forests in India where you are allowed to stay in the Government controlled forest rest houses but getting a room there to stay is quite a task. The reason I stay inside/near forests is the amazing night life you encounter after dark. The chirping of birds throughout the day is replaced by the sound of night jars and owls. The big cats, who are resting during the day start moving and with them the jungle starts erupting. You may not see the big cats at night but you will know their movement by sounds of other animals and birds of the forests. This thrill of sharing the space with the big cats, elephants, bisons, other smaller nocturnal creatures makes such places worth visiting and this was the reason I stayed at the Jungle Retreat, Wayanad. We had stayed from 18-22 March 2024. The stay was comfortable, the authentic South Indian food served by chef Shiva was lip smacking. The wildlife stories were never ending. And all the aspects were taken good care by Manu, Jathin, Vishnu, Bhaskara. And meeting the owner of the resort Mr. Anil Palat was a wonderful experience. His knowledge, curiosity and the enthusiasm for the wildlife was amazing. We could spot deer, elephants, giant squirrel, mouse deer, civet cat and many birds right inside the resort boundary. We also spotted a leopard one night near the resort and the enthusiasm by the owner Mr. Anil to help us spot the leopard was amazing. On the last day, we stayed at the Tree House inside the dense jungle. Although not much wildlife movement on the day we stayed, but we came to know that the resident tigress and her cubs visited the water hole near the tree house on the next day. The Tree House had well maintained rooms and were taken good care by our naturalist, Bhaskara. Jungle Retreat is quite close to the Nagarhole Safari gate and the team booked safaris for us. We had some amazing sightings of tigers, elephants, gaurs in the Nagarhole National Park. Any wildlife lover would love this place. Special thanks to Mr. Prasad for helping us with the bookings and suggesting us about the Nagarhole safari. Would surely visit this place again.

Jungle Retreat Wayanad
Ce qui saute aux yeux c’est l’authenticité du lieu. Nous avons passé trois jours dans un cadre sublime. Notre bungalow donnait sur une large prairie où les animaux venaient boire et paître. Depuis la terrasse, nous avons ainsi pu observer pas moins d’une quarantaine de biches et des cerfs et des paons aussi. Des singes nous ont également rendu visite. Nous avons vu deux éléphants lors d’une balade en soirée en voiture et une nuit un éléphant est passé tout près de notre bungalow et nous avons pu l’observer par la fenêtre!! Nous avons fait un Trek pour découvrir les oiseaux, c’était une vraie symphonie pour les yeux et les oreilles. nous avons aussi fait un trek de 4 h jusqu’au sommet d’un petit pic d’où nous avions une vue fantastique sur toute la région.
En résumé trois jours enchanteur pour 25500 roupies.
Merci aussi pour la compétence la gentillesse de toute l’équipe de Jungle retreat.
Ce fut une expérience fascinante mêlée d’un peu de frayeur d ‘être ainsi plongé dans un environnement où la vie sauvage coexiste avec la vie humaine. Totalement inimaginable en France.

Special place
Well if I could give this 10/5 I would as this place is super special. We were only staying 3 nights but extended to 5 nights as it was so relaxing. ALL the staff cannot do enough for you. They are all so friendly and want to help as much as possible . The food is a plenty and all the staff are very knowledgeable about what you hear. They can arrange all activities so nothing to worry about . The property sits close to a water hole which some bungalows overlook or there’s a watchtower to use, and after dark if an animal is spotted they come and knock to see if you want to view it. I know what you’re thinking “it’s dark” but they have a night vision binoculars for you to view. Regular elephant and tigers walk through at night so worth getting up if you can get out of the comfy bed. We did 3 safaris but only saw 1 tiger but lots of other animals to see.
Only 1 problem we didn’t realise it was cash only so take plenty with you as you will want to stay longer. But again there are apps for you to do money transfer or they can get you to an ATM close by. Plenty of options.
I can’t rate Jungle retreats highly enough. Its a one in a million place and a special find and we’ve travelled ALOT.

Serene stay in beautifully built resort
We had a great time in the resort! The property is built beautifully, the staff is nice and the food was good. If you are looking for a peaceful nature stay in the Wayanad area, look no further!
We had booked one night in the jungle cottage, and one night in the deluxe because of the superior view, but already really liked the view of the jungle cottage.
You can book a jeep safari via the retreat (INR 3500, 3 hours) or a bus safari via the government website (INR 750, 1.5 hours). These prices are excluding transportation to the park entrance, which can be arranged for you at the retreat.
We also really enjoyed the Brahmagiri peak trek, which starts from the nearby Thirunelly Forest Station (mandatory guide, INR 3100 for a group of 1-5 foreigners).
