This site, located at Portal Galeana 117, dates back to 1622. By 1708 the residence was acquired by the captain and alderman Antonio de Berrospe y Oyarzábal, who notably renovated it, and on his death, in a pious act, he donated the property to church.
In 1770 the house became the Sacred Convent of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and later a Hospital, run by the Order of the Barefoot Carmelites.
On February 27, 1805, Doña Ana María de Huarte y Muñiz, daughter of the Spanish Provincial Mayor of the District Don Isidro Huarte, married the soldier of the Valladolid Provincial Regiment Agustín de Iturbide and spent their wedding night in this house. Aramburu (Agustin I, Emperor of Mexico), later known as the Iron Dragon.
During the 20th century, the commercial premises of the portal have been allocated to different banking institutions, it was the first headquarters of the Bank of London and Mexico.
In the 50's, the building was remodeled once again, to become the Normandie Suites, one of the most representative hotels in Morelia at that time, owing its name to the ocean liner in which the businessman Don Máximo Diez arrived at the port of Veracruz from Spain, who acquired the property in 1922.
In 2007 a part of the building, from the backyard and the upper floor, underwent a reconstruction, which was in charge of Ing. Juan Carlos Doce Ibarra, who with great sense, managed to integrate the old with the modern, it is the case of the 19th century heater located in one of the rooms, or the vault of the Bank of London and Mexico, used as a cellar for select table wines.

Bad experience at their restaurant
What a bad experience at their restaurant. Doesn´t even deserve one star. After ordering and telling the waiter that I am quiet hungry and looking forward to my dish, they fully equipped my table with plates and cutlery. My drink came after 10 minuntes... so far so good. I am a very patient person. After 45 to 60 minutes the waiter came back and asked, if I am waiting for something. Whaaaat? - Oh, the waiter forgot to order. ... and that was that. No excuse, no saying like, do you want a coffee while waiting. Cannot judge the foood, because it never came.... --

Un lugar con Historia y atención excelente
Es un lugar que solo al entrar se ve la exclusividad desde el aroma elegante hasta la atención de todo el equipo de recepción. Muy amables y sobre todo serviciales. Las habitaciones son preciosas y muy cómodas, hay una gran variedad de costos y se adaptan a las necesidades del huésped. Me voy con ganas de volver y que me consientan nuevamente.

EL MEJOR HOTEL DE MORELIA
Mi experiencia fue única y excepcional, súper atentos y muy amables desde la llegada, la comida del restaurante estaba muy deliciosa, sin embargo, tiene una vista increíble hacia la catedral, el mejor hotel de Morelia, SÚPER RECOMENDADO!!

Luxury, history and location, location, location!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We fould the staff so very friendly from the moment we arrived. Learning the history of the building, wandering the halls and sitting in the enclosed patio to soak up the atmosphere were part of the charm of our stay. The view from the terrace of the cathedral is unparralled! The rooms are extremely comfortable, with a perfect blend of old-world feel with up-to-date luxury. Everything from start to finish was just WOW!
