Another great visit
Great beach never crowded and safe swimming. Some naturists at the northern end and you can also find a beach to yourself here.
The new beach bar cafe was a huge dis’s appointment after the excellent torinos that was there before. Our drink’s portions for coffee and wine were tiny.

Attractive small town and quiet sandy beaches
Despite progressive development over the years El Cotillo still has a sleepy town atmosphere which very much appeals to us as visitors.
At the time of our most recent trip there was a lot of construction going on at the northern end of the town, opposite the Hotel Coral Cotillo Beach and near some new apartments which had opened recently. We had intended booking one of these until we discovered about the works and stayed in Corralejo instead. A lot of the development in El Cotillo has been on an upmarket basis. There have been several attractive looking new restaurants opened since our last visit and a few boutique shops, including those in renovated old buildings. Hopefully the town will retain its charm.
The beaches to the south of town, beyond the old castle tower, are long and sandy. The area is favoured by surfers (including surf schools) and wind surfers. Access is via rough paths from the cliffs above. It has the advantage of being within a short walking or driving distance of the town where there are plenty of facilities for eating and drinking.
The coastline to the north of the town towards the lighthouses and beyond has lots of sandy areas, interspersed with rocks. However there is still plenty of opportunity for gentle sloping beaches into the sea for a dip. This is the area known for the lagoons and the further from town, the more likely you are to have areas shared by “textiles” and naturists. Lots of stone shelters have been built on the beaches over the years to provide an escape from the wind (and possibly some privacy). Beyond the lighthouses the road is unsurfaced and very bumpy so if driving or cycling be prepared for a rough ride. There are no facilities in this area at all so you need to go prepared or return to town for creature comforts, food and drink.
Neither the town or the beaches have been crowded in our experience of visiting over a number of years. If you like a bit more buzz, best to stay in nearby Corralejo or one of the other larger resorts.

Nice village stop
This is a nice village stop on a drive around the island of Fuertaventura. There is a short pleasant stroll along the headland or you could just take a seat in one of the local cafes/restaurants and watch the world go by.
