2 Days South Coast Iceland - Private Tour

A 2 day adventure along the beautiful South Coast of Iceland, visiting waterfalls, glaciers, glacier lagoons, black beaches, friendly villages and Vatnajökull National Park. Begin the adventure by enjoying the extraordinary Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, and take a short hike behind the waterfall. Visit the hidden Gljúfrabúi "the one who lives in the canyon". Skógafoss waterfall is one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland, and has appeared in movies, music videos and Netflix "The Vikings" TV show. Learn about warming climate and the effect on glaciers in Iceland by visiting the Sólheimajökull glacier. Sólheimajökull an outlet glacier from Mýrdalsjökull that sits on the active Katla volcano. Walk on the black beach Reynisfjara which was in 1991, ranked as one of the ten most beautiful non-tropical beaches in the world. Hopefully the weather allows a view of Eyjafjallajökull volcano. Stop in Vík village before heading to the accommodation. After breakfast head further south to enjoy Vatnajökull National Park, with its beautiful Skaftafell, incredible glaciers, glacier lagoons and black beaches. Skaftafell area has been used as a filming location for many films and TV shows, such as Game of Thrones, Die another day James Bond movie and Interstellar. Fjarðargljúfur canyon is a beautiful canyon carved and formed by glacial river during the termination of the last ice age, about 9.000 years ago. The canyon is about 100 m deep and 2 km long. Fjarðárgljúfur became world famous after appearing in one of Justin Bieber´s music video. Drive towards Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, a 200 metre (656 ft) deep glacial lake fed by Breiðamerkurjökull, an outlet glacier from Europe’s largest glacier Vatnajökull. Enormous icebergs come from Breiðamerkurjökull all year round so the lagoon is usually filled with ice that floats south. Enjoy watching the floating icebergs and perhaps seals swim by. We can book a boat trip for you if you like as extra. Fjallsárlón is another Glacier Lagoon that you will have the opportunity to enjoy. Diamond Beach, the black beach in front of Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, is often filled with icebergs from the lagoon of different sizes and shapes and sparkle like diamonds in the daylight. In winter we visit natural ice caves but in summer when they are closed we enjoy an amazing glacier hike and in Skaftafell we hike to the beautiful Svartifoss, in English, the Black Waterfall. Svartifoss tumbles down 20 metres (65 ft) from a cliff that is made of beautifully hanging hexagonal basalt columns. The hexagonal columns form inside a lava flow that cools extremely slowly, giving rise to crystallization.
Winter: Natural ice caves in winter (November - April) (min age 10).
Summer: Glacier hike (min age 10) and hike to Svartifoss waterfall (May - October).
We drive along the South Coast back to Reykjavík.

What will you do

DAY 1
REYKJAVÍK
Pick up at 9.00 AM, at your accommodation, or meet us at bus stop number 8, next to Hallgrímskirkja church, downtown. Along the South Coast you will drive past Hveragerði, the town of hot springs, due to geothermal activity just below the earth surface. The geothermal water is used to heat greenhouses to grow food.
SELJALANDSFOSS AND GLJÚFRABÚI WATERFALLS
Seljalandsfoss is a 60 m high waterfall, beautifully located and exceptional because you can enjoy it from behind. A path takes you around the waterfall and standing behind it is a rare and unique experience. However, on very cold days the path can be closed because of ice, but then you have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful icy landscape. Gljúfrabúi is a nearby waterfall. Gljúfrabúi translates to "the one who lives in the canyon" and is a small hidden waterfall partially obscured by the cliff rock. You need to follow a trail along the small river to enter the narrow canyon where the waterfall tumbles down.
SKÓGAFOSS WATERFALL
Skógafoss is one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland. It is also 60 m high and about 25 m wide. Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss are both in glacier rivers, meltwater from Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers. Alongside the waterfall a staircase can take you to the shelf above the waterfall for stunning views.
SÓLHEIMAJÖKULL GLACIER
Learn about warming climate and the effect on glaciers in Iceland by visiting the Sólheimajökull glacier. Sólheimajökull is an outlet glacier, flowing out of the ice cap Mýrdalsjökull. Underneath Mýrdalsjökull is the famous volcano Katla. Glaciers are retreating and disappearing around us on an unprecedented rate. It is predicted that in a few decades the glaciers in Iceland will all be gone.
DYRHÓLAEY
At Dyrhólaey there is an amazing view of the south coast landscape and black beaches. Dyrhólaey is a 120-metre high promontory that the sea has eroded from the headland. In summer Dyrhólaey is rich in bird life, the most common, the puffin. Note, in spring during nesting Dyrhólaey is closed.
REYNISDRANGAR AND REYNISFJARA BLACK BEACH
Iceland is a volcanic island, made up mainly of basaltic material that is black in colour. Hence, the “Black Beaches”. The black beach was, in 1991, ranked as one of the ten most beautiful non-tropical beaches in the world. On the beach, there are remarkable basalt columns. Reynisdrangar is a sea stack, a geological formation made by wave erosion of surrounding material.
EYJAFJALLAJÖKULL VOLCANO
Hopefully the weather allows a view of Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which is famous for it´s eruption in 2010, that disrupted air traffic in Europe.
VÍK VILLAGE
Vík village is a small village south of Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Stop there before heading to the accommodation. Overnight near Skaftafell National Park.

DAY 2
Breakfast at hotel.
SKAFTAFELL NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast drive to Skaftafell. Skaftafell National Park belongs now to a larger, Vatnajökull National Park, which covers Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe, and the surrounding wilderness.
JÖKULSÁRLÓN GLACIER LAGOON AND DIAMOND BEACH
Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon is a beautiful lagoon in front of a calving glacier. We will enjoy the amazing view of floating icebergs in a lagoon and walk between them at the black beach, which is sometimes referred to The Diamond Beach. A boat trip in the lagoon is optional and can be booked on location or in advance with us. The sailing tour between icebergs and close to the glacier makes the visit even more memorable.
FJALLSÁRLÓN GLACIER LAGOON
Fjallsárlón is another beautiful glacier lagoon, in front of a calving glacier. The glacier is an outlet glacier from Vatnajökull that flows down a steep valley until it reaches the lagoon. Ice breaks off the glacier and floats around in the water, creating beautiful scenery.
FJARÐÁRGLJÚFUR CANYON
Fjarðargljúfur canyon is a beautiful canyon carved and formed by glacial river during the termination of the last ice age, about 9.000 years ago. The canyon is about 100 m deep and 2 km long. Fjarðárgljúfur became world famous after appearing in one of Justin Bieber´s music video. Drive along the South Coast to Reykjavík.
NATURAL ICE CAVES (WINTER) OR GLACIER HIKE AND SKAFTAFELL (SUMMER)

  • Are the prices always the same even if the date changes?
Prices vary based on various factors which may be seasonal, day of the week, occupancy status of the hotel, promotions, particular fairs in the city and more. The advice, to see the prices, is to enter the dates of your stay and make your own comparisons.
  • Is breakfast always included?
No, it depends on the rate and whether the structure is organized to offer it or not. Check carefully before booking what is included and what is not and what type of service is offered.
  • Can I make special requests?
Of course, when booking you will have a field where you can write directly to the property and make your requests. These will be evaluated by the Hotel who will respond directly to you. MeTour is not responsible in this decision-making process.
  • What types of beds will I find in the room I booked?
The type of bed is usually specified in the room sheet. If you have any special requests or needs you can indicate them at the time of booking by writing them in the "special requests" field which will be forwarded directly to the property. In this process MeTour is not responsible.
  • What is Paga in Structural and what are Payment Pre-Authorisations?
When you book, some facilities offer the possibility of paying directly at the facility. In these cases you will simply be asked to insert your credit (or debit) card to guarantee the booking, but without any charge. The sum will be taken from your credit card only in the cases provided for by the policies and conditions relating to your booking. In other cases, when the Partner does not adopt automatic availability and booking systems, but confirms reservations "manually", then you will be asked to insert your credit (or debit) card to guarantee the reservation, and then be directly charged at the same time as the Partner confirms the booking (within 24-48 hours). At that moment you will receive an email with the booking confirmation and payment.
  • How do I know if my card has been pre-authorized?
By consulting your credit card balance you will see that your available balance will be temporarily reduced by the amount of your booking. In other cases and depending on the policy of your credit card circuit, you may also find an entry in the monthly summary of card movements: "pending operation". The pre-authorization block, depending on the situation, will be maintained according to the policies and terms and conditions of what has been booked.
  • How can I cancel or change my booking?
Easy, enter the customer area with your credentials and from there you can modify or cancel your booking. Remember that changing dates or canceling with a refund request depends on the rate you chose when booking.
  • Can I transfer my reservation to another person?
For this request, contact the property directly which may have a specific policy in this regard or may need further data on the person to whom you want to transfer the booking.
  • How can I get help with my booking?
Enter the customer area with your credentials and from there you can contact us or by writing through our contact form specifying your booking number and the reason for the contact request. We recommend that you also leave a telephone number where you can be reached in case of need.
  • Are there taxes, local charges or extras to be paid directly on site?
They are normally clearly indicated in the property sheet or added during the booking phase depending on local regulations or the facility's policies. But even if not clearly indicated, payments may be requested directly to the facility for any tourist taxes, local charges or extras not included in the rate. The advice is to read everything carefully before booking or writing to us through our contact form.
  • Are small pets allowed?
It is often clearly stated in the property sheet and for this reason we invite you to carefully read their policies. Where not indicated, we invite you to contact us through our contact form for more information.

We also show the latest 5 reviews left by travelers on TripAdvisor. This data is automatically updated and is provided to help our users make informed choices. Private two-day tour golden circle/south coast
We went on a private two day tour along the golden circle and south coast with Sergei, it was amazing. Sergei is super professional, kind, patient and knowledgeable. He also takes really great pictures and knows all the best spots for them! He lent me some gloves from his wife super last-minute when I told him mine fit too big, and would also let me stop several times along the way to see icelandic horses! I would recommend him 100%, best price-quality guarantee! Sergei thank you for everything I wish you the very best in all your future endeavors!
Dear Sol, Thank you for your feedback and for traveling with me for two days along the Golden Circle and South Coast routes. I'm glad you have pleasant memories.

In a word, it's incredible!
We had a 5-day tour to Iceland, and all these days Serhey accompanied us on the trip. It was an incredible 5 days!
We saw as much as we could. Sergey not only brought us to the locations, he told many stories and facts about these places, about Iceland in general, and also recommended the best locations for photos.
He is very knowledgeable, with an encyclopedic knowledge of everything in Iceland - from the earliest history to the modern political system, from flora and fauna to geological and climatic nuances. Also, it is exciting to listen to him. He holds the audience well, and answers all questions.
He is also an incredibly intelligent and calm person. He will always help, advise if any difficulties arise. It is impossible to imagine a better guide.
Thank you, Sergey, for presenting Iceland for me and making me fall in love with it. Now I want to come here in the summer so that I can see other parts of the island, not only the south :)
Dear Larissa,
Thank you for your feedback and for being with me during these five days of traveling in the South and West of Iceland and allowing me to introduce you to many of the sights of our country. I would be happy to help you explore Iceland on a trip around the island if you can revisit us.

Thank you for your kind words and for being with me two day
