What will you do

The beginning of our itinerary will take place from the Port of Marina Grande, climbing towards the Terra Murata hill, the highest point of our route. Along the way you will pass colorful houses, ancient churches and beautiful gardens.
As previously announced we will have entrance with a guided tour at the former prison, Palazzo D'Avalos. We will cross a long entrance hall that is disturbing due to the silence it maintains, but when you enter, a world opens up that seems to have remained suspended: corridors with very high ceilings illuminated by large arched windows, beams that still keep the structure solid and solid iron grates that close the spaces. And also large rooms where the prisoners' beds and their small furniture with personal effects are still located. After the guided tour, still remaining on the promontory of the island we will head to the Abbey of San Michele with a visit to the abbey complex, we will walk along the central nave up to the main altar, and from here we will admire the four Neapolitan school paintings dated 1690 by the painter Nicola Russo, student of the more famous Luca Giordano. Of particular importance is also the canvas which depicts the apparition and miracle of "San Michele Arcangelo who protects the island of Procida.
Last stop of the tour, stop in a delicious local restaurant to taste the famous spaghetti a riccio along the beach of Vivara (a protected marine area typical for its paths immersed in dense Mediterranean flora and also remembered for the famous film "Il Postino" by Massimo Troisi). The experience includes a free lunch break.

What to expect

An immersion in one of the most fascinating islands in the world, with a past of navigators, intact nature overlooking the pristine sea that kisses this pearl, breathtaking views, among artisan shops, welcoming islanders, delicious food.

What's included

The excursion includes an expert guide who will show you the beauties of this island as fascinating as the song of the sirens. Stop for FREE lunch.

What is not included

Lunch, food or drinks and anything not described is not included.

To remember

The excursion takes place along the narrow streets of the island of Procida which are mainly uphill, so the experience may not be suitable for everyone. Children can only participate if accompanied by an adult who supervises their safety.

Tips

We recommend comfortable trekking shoes, a bottle of water, a hat in the hot months, a windproof and rain jacket in the spring or autumn months.
The purchase of typical local products is a must, such as: the sweet "ox tongues" (puff pastry filled with exquisite lemon custard) and fresh artisanal pasta.

  • Are the prices always the same even if the date changes?

  • Is breakfast always included?
No, it depends on the rate and whether the structure is organized to offer it or not. Check carefully before booking what is included and what is not and what type of service is offered.
  • Can I make special requests?
Of course, when booking you will have a field where you can write directly to the property and make your requests. These will be evaluated by the Hotel who will respond directly to you. MeTour is not responsible in this decision-making process.
  • What types of beds will I find in the room I booked?
The type of bed is usually specified in the room sheet. If you have any special requests or needs you can indicate them at the time of booking by writing them in the "special requests" field which will be forwarded directly to the property. In this process MeTour is not responsible.
  • What is Paga in Structural and what are Payment Pre-Authorisations?
When you book, some facilities offer the possibility of paying directly at the facility. In these cases you will simply be asked to insert your credit (or debit) card to guarantee the booking, but without any charge. The sum will be taken from your credit card only in the cases provided for by the policies and conditions relating to your booking. In other cases, when the Partner does not adopt automatic availability and booking systems, but confirms reservations "manually", then you will be asked to insert your credit (or debit) card to guarantee the reservation, and then be directly charged at the same time as the Partner confirms the booking (within 24-48 hours). At that moment you will receive an email with the booking confirmation and payment.
  • How do I know if my card has been pre-authorized?
By consulting your credit card balance you will see that your available balance will be temporarily reduced by the amount of your booking. In other cases and depending on the policy of your credit card circuit, you may also find an entry in the monthly summary of card movements: "pending operation". The pre-authorization block, depending on the situation, will be maintained according to the policies and terms and conditions of what has been booked.
  • How can I cancel or change my booking?
Easy, enter the customer area with your credentials and from there you can modify or cancel your booking. Remember that changing dates or canceling with a refund request depends on the rate you chose when booking.
  • Can I transfer my reservation to another person?
For this request, contact the property directly which may have a specific policy in this regard or may need further data on the person to whom you want to transfer the booking.
  • How can I get help with my booking?
Enter the customer area with your credentials and from there you can contact us or by writing through our contact form specifying your booking number and the reason for the contact request. We recommend that you also leave a telephone number where you can be reached in case of need.
  • Are there taxes, local charges or extras to be paid directly on site?
They are normally clearly indicated in the property sheet or added during the booking phase depending on local regulations or the facility's policies. But even if not clearly indicated, payments may be requested directly to the facility for any tourist taxes, local charges or extras not included in the rate. The advice is to read everything carefully before booking or writing to us through our contact form.

Overrated
Boring ferry ride from Naples. Long hot walk to what was supposed to be the best beach. Dirty black sand and knee deep water. Not a hidden gem at all tourists dumped there constantly. Overrated.

Giornata a Procida

Instagram Hype - avoid it.
We travelled to Procida in mid November 2023 from Pozzuoli harbour with the ordinary ferry. The return ticket was 18 EUR/person. The ferry trip was worth it (we even saw dolphins) - Procida not. To me it's an overestimated Insta hype about Procida due to the colourful houses along the sports boat harbour (the ferry arrives approx 10 mins walking distance away at a different harbour). First we climbed the hill in order to see the old fortress (partly a former prison, abandoned) and catch the famous view. This was actually nice. But that's all. We decided to walk across this little island. This was a bad choice - outside the main city you walk on streets without pavement chased by aggresively speeding cars and mopeds. There are many little gardens but you cannot see them because all streets are fenced in by massive walls or fences. The touristical infrastructure almost disappeared in November. You don't finde nice walkways; that's significantly different to Ischia or Capri nearby. Go there - avoid Procida. Procida is an island for owners not tourists. Hard to believe: after endless disappointing walks we returned to the harbour desparately waiting for the ferry in order to return to Pozzuoli. Never again Procida.

Hidden gem
We had intended going to Capri from our cruise ship docked in Naples but after a pretty horrific visit to Portofino with huge crowds we decided on a less known island for our day trip. We were not disappointed. The ferry across was large, well air conditioned and relatively clean. The island itself was small yet with a homely feel. We just wandered around the town and shops, had a couple of drinks at local cafes and then some lunch before heading back.

A really good option to see an island without the crowds.

Just beautiful and very relaxing
We were initially considering Capri, but this place looked beautiful and like Amalfi was 10 years ago, when we arrived at about 12pm it was lovely and quiet, after the frenetic energy of Naples we felt ourselves relax instantly. Off the SNAV we turned left and followed the harbour down until we reached a beach bar and a small quiet beach, with warm waters and views of other islands, mountains and Vesuvius. Sitting here with a nice breeze, we sank a couple of cold ones, very reasonably priced too. Not far away is a road you can take to get to the harbour on the other side, where all the famous picturesque shots are taken of the colourful town, if you head towards Palazzo d'Avalos, you get some breathtaking views, it is pretty steep but well worth it. It is better to take the steps down to the harbour near the left side (if facing it) as they are not as steep and have hand rails. Such a lovey place, we even considered staying a night as there were a few apartments and hotels available on booking.com, for about €70. Definitely worth a visit.

Petite perle magnifique

Picture-perfect island
A beautiful place, ideal for a taste of Italy. The marinas are breathtaking and it's fun exploring the little streets. Electric buses make it easy to get around or you can hire e-cars or e-bikes. Street traffic is a little chaotic at times, but all part of the atmosphere. Ciraccio beach is by far the best and the restaurants are great for seafood (if a little expensive by Italian standards.) We loved it.
