Why come to Naples for Christmas/New Year 2025
Naples, at the end of the year, is lived on the street: lights on, music, scents of desserts and fried foods. In 2025, the lights will be the protagonists in iconic squares and streets: my local advice is to arrive at dusk for a first tour and return to the highlights when the crowds thin out. For maps and updates, also read our dedicated guide: “Let's light up Naples 2025”.
The best way to experience the Beautiful Lights? Choose one of our evening tours, because while you are fascinated by seeing this expanse of lights, you will have an expert Neapolitan guide to guide you through the most beautiful, most iconic places, told together with anecdotes and stories. Furthermore, with an evening tour you avoid chaos and empty laps: optimized route, photo stops, curiosities and stories that give meaning to what you see. And above all, the right tastings in the right places.
Nativity scenes, flea markets & street food & holiday desserts
San Gregorio Armeno is the soul of the Neapolitan nativity scene: historic workshops, terracotta shepherds, details of daily life (the tavern, the fishmonger, the stream). Anti-crowd trick? Early morning or evening.
This year, then, in the Piazza del Plebiscito, a huge Santa Claus Village has been set up, to the joy of all the little ones and all those people who love this holiday A very popular Christmas market in Naples is located in Piazza Mercato: Here, Neapolitans have always found toys for their children, together with the latest news and unique things. The Furbo tip?
next to this historic square (here the patriot “Masaniello” was hanged in 1648), don't miss a visit to the Beautiful Santa Maria del Carmine Maggiore (baroque style, year 1268) rich in works of art, beauty, history, anecdotes and a highly revered icon of the Madonna and a miraculous crucifix.
You can't miss, going around, to stop in one of the many places that offer typical Neapolitan Street Food or one of the excellent typical Neapolitan Christmas desserts. Here in Naples Christmas smells like an oven: puff pastry (pastry or curly?) , babà, struffoli, roccocò. But my 'comfort bite' remains the savoury one: pizza with a wallet, fried dishes, 'tarallo 'nzogna e peppe' with a sea view. A typical taste is included in our tour: it's the best way to link lights, stories and flavors without wasting time in random lines.
