Agropoli: Il Raggio Verde becomes a model of accessible and autonomous beach

Beaches and Accessibility You Can

Dear MeTour friends,
Today we want to tell you a story that touches us deeply and that represents a big step forward towards a more inclusive tourism. In Agropoli, at the Lido Il Raggio Verde, an accessible beach model was born that allows people with disabilities to enjoy the sea in complete autonomy.
It all started when Cristiano Costanzo, founder and president of the Gabry Little Hero ODV Association, came across a situation that made him think deeply. Offering to help a disabled girl get on the job chair to get into the water, he received a firm "NO". That answer made him understand how important it is for people with reduced mobility to be able to access the sea without having to depend on others.

The innovation of SEATRAC Mover

From this awareness, the project "Seatrac - The sea is for everyone" was born, with the aim of creating a replicable model of an accessible and independently usable beach. The heart of the project is the SEATRAC Mover, an innovative device that, through a deckchair on rails, allows people with mobility problems to enter and exit the water independently and safely. In addition, the lido has been equipped with adequate sunbeds, platforms and walkways, accessible changing rooms and bathrooms, as well as an improvement in table services.
The choice of Agropoli is not accidental. In addition to its natural beauty and the sensitivity of the municipal administration, the city had been particularly close to the Costanzo family during the search for a bone marrow donor for little Gabriele, affected by a rare disease called SIFD. The local community had in fact organized donor recruitment events, demonstrating great solidarity.
Thanks to the collaboration between the Gabry Little Hero Association, the Lume Association, Mi Girano le Ruote APS and the financial support of BCC Magna Grecia, the project became a reality in just eight months, with an investment of approximately 52,000 euros. This model is already inspiring other seaside resorts, such as the free equipped beach of Brugiano in Massa.
