Zanzibar and how to get there

Zanzibar is a tropical archipelago off the east coast of Tanzania, in the Indian Ocean. The main island, Unguja, is often simply identified as “Zanzibar”. From Italy you can reach it with direct international flights or with a stopover in other African cities. Once you land at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, you will easily find private transfers or shuttles to reach your Valtur village or other facilities.
Travel tip: Always check the documents and visa required to enter Tanzania and remember to bring mosquito repellent (essential in this tropical paradise).

What to do and see: nature, sea and culture

Zanzibar is called “the spice island” for its long tradition of growing cloves, cinnamon and pepper. If you love uncontaminated nature this is the right place for you: you will find white sandy beaches, coral reefs teeming with colorful fish and the famous turquoise lagoons, but above all a lush and explosive nature in colors and shapes. Not to be missed is a visit to:
  • Stone Town: UNESCO heritage, the historic heart of Zanzibar, with narrow alleys, Arabian-style buildings and a colorful market.
  • Safari Blu : a boat excursion to discover the smaller islands and sandbanks.
  • Spice Tour : a guided tour through spice and tropical fruit plantations, to discover unique aromas and flavors.
Travel tip: Bring a snorkelling mask to admire the coral reef, which can also be visited on trips on a dhow (traditional boat).

When to go and what weather to expect

Zanzibar has a hot and humid tropical climate , with two rainy seasons: the main one between March and May, and a lighter one between November and December. The best time to visit is from June to October, when temperatures are pleasant and rainfall is limited. The months from December to February are also great for a beach holiday, although a little warmer.
Travel tip: If you are looking for an ideal mix of sun and tranquility, consider the months of January-February or August-September, when the tourist influx is moderate and the climate is favorable.
