Which port to choose? Differences between Beverello, Mergellina and Pozzuoli
Are you thinking about a future trip to one of the islands in the Gulf of Naples between Ischia, Procida or Capri? Are you taking a vacation in Naples, but would you like to visit Capri and you don't know how to get there? You are in the right place then, because playing at home, we give you a clear and updated guide to choosing the port and the right way to reach it, how and by what means to get to the port without stress and without spending a lot of money.
- Molo Beverello (city center): it is the hydrofoils/hydrofoils terminal for Capri, Ischia, Procida and other Gulf routes; it is the most used pier and best connected to the center.
- Mergellina (Posillipo/Chiaia side): smaller, seasonal port for some quick trips; useful if you're staying in the Chiaia-Posillipo area. Some connections (such as the Tyrrhenian archipelagos) depart according to the seasonality of the operators. Always check for updated schedules.
- Pozzuoli (Flegrea area): excellent alternative to Ischia and Procida with ferries and motor ships (even with cars on board). Often more convenient and cheaper for those who are west of Naples or for those who want to bring cars or campers in tow.
Indicative times (weather permitting):
Capri ~ 50 min by hydrofoil from Beverello; capri.net
Procida ~ 30—40 min by hydrofoil (up to 60 min by ferry); Ischia ~ 50—60 min by hydrofoil (up to 90 min by ferry).

SNAV connections and main routes (Capri, Ischia, Procida... and beyond)
- SNAV operates hydrofoils from Molo Beverello to Capri, Ischia (Casamicciola) and Procida, with year-round runs and seasonal reinforcements; there are also seasonal routes to Sorrento and medium-haul connections (Aeolian, Pontine) on dedicated periods. Times and frequencies vary with the season: always check the day's race on our Metour.it website (soon
- on-line).
- Real examples of times/prices for Capri (from Beverello, ~50 minutes by jet): see updated public timetable.
- From Pozzuoli there are several trips to Ischia and Procida (Caremar, Medmar, Gestour) with ferrys/motorships and times of 60-80 min (variable depending on type and stops).
Local suggestion, from Neapolitans :-): in high season book in advance and buy tickets for SNAV vehicles on-line on Metour.it (soon on-line) and show up 20—30 minutes early; with rough seas, hydrofoils may be stops/delays, while ferries are more stable but slow.
Practical tips + booking on Metour.it
- Beverello vs Mergellina vs Pozzuoli: if you stay downtown or arrive by train, focus on Beverello; if you stay in Chiaia/Posillipo, Mergellina may be useful (but with fewer trips); if you are in the Campi Flegrei or have cars, consider Pozzuoli.
- Luggage & kids: faster hydrofoils, more spacious ferries; stroller ok, but check with the company for rules on animals/bulky luggage.
- Weather & security: with high wind/wave, fast services may be suspended; always check the day's run.
- Door-to-door transfers: we at MeTour organize private transfers from airport and station to ports (and back), coordinating your boarding times.
