Vila Petra

Just arrived home from this lovely hotel, can't praise it enough. Staff are very lovely and helpful, the hotel is really clean. Our room was big and cleaned every day , we would 100% come back. A short walk to the strip bit if like us you prefer the old town is was very easy and cost around 4 euros in an uber.

After having read previous reviews i was a bit apprehensive about going to this hotel, need not have worried. From the moment we entered we got a warm welcome, all staff are very friendly & polite. Would like to mention David in stones bar always acknowledged us. The rooms are very spacious & clean, only fault towels are a bit on the small side, beds a bit hard but just ask at reception for a mattress topper. Plenty of sunbeds to go around. Never seen any trouble. Would recommend this hotel.

The most beautiful hotel we have stayed in Portugal, rooms were immaculate, and everything we needed was provided. The staff in the kids club and entertainment staff were UNBELIEVABLE! Found the drinks a little expensive and the prices were different all the time. One bad thing to say about vila petra was a man that worked in the bar called Antonio, the rudest, most ingnorant, angry man i have ever come across. My bank card was a little bent and when i went to purchase a drink from him i explained to him the card had to be put into the machine slowly as it was a bit fragile, he rammed it into the machine and it wouldn’t read it, i tried to ask him again would he just put it into the machine slowly he said no, so then i asked him would he mind swiping it so again he rammed it through and it wouldn’t read it, i asked him could i do it please he refused to let me put the card into the machine, and then pushed the machine into my face (it was touching my nose) madam can you see your card it not working! I said i cant see what it says because you have poked my eye out with the machine, i had to push the machine away from my face, so then he decided to put his three fingers into my face and said i have done this three times do you understand me miss, i will not do it again i will charge to your room, i asked him if he was ok that he seemed very angry and he gave me the look of death.. another man came up behind me and asked for a drink, to which antonio’s reply was.. why are you drinking in this bar can you not go down to the pool bar! The man was apologetic and said oh i didnt realise i couldn’t drink up here! He accused us three times on another occasion of not paying our dinner bill, which we had paid, and we had no problem by the way paying with our card on that occasion! There was also a couple (70yrs old) that had travelled to vila petra 9 years in a row and he accused them of not paying their bill, grabbed the lady by her arm and swung her around and started shouting at her in front of everyone in the restaurant.. you did not pay you did not pay, she said we booked half board our meals are included, he told them to stay put while he rang reception, when he came back he just walked straight past them ignoring them almost and the lady said.. well did you ring them? He said you can go!
This hotel was amazing but alot of couples and families were giving out about this man and said they would not be returning because of his rude and nasty behaviour! He will drag this hotel down if he continues working there!

Just returning from a beautiful stay in Portugal.

This hotel is beautiful, clean and in a lovely location. It’s close the strip (new town) however is not noise near the hotel etc. Plenty of sun loungers & no fights to get one in the sun. Rooms are made up daily by the maid to a high standard.

Rooms - Our room was lovely and spacious. A large bathroom with a bath/shower, toilet & sink. We had a double bed (2 singles pushed together) and a sofa bed for our little boy - all of which were super comfy! The kitchen is lovely and large and the hotel provides everything you could think of ie dishwasher, washing up liquid, sponge, all pots and pans, toaster, kettle, coffee maker, tongs etc.

Bar/restaurant - the bars on site are lovely are modern and serve all local beers/wine and spirits. We only ate here 1 night (steak night 2for1). This was then followed by Mama Mia. The food was nice however for anyone looking for a steak I would advise to order the grilled steak or T-bone & not chuck steak as i did. This was quickly rectified by the staff when they realised my steak full of fat/gristle and replaced it with a grilled steak - could not fault the staff at all. Food is reasonably priced.

Pool bar is lovely and stocks all well knows drinks: pizza & food for lunch is also lovely!

Entertainment - there is a fab kids entertainment team who have daily actives for the children and encourage them to get involved and also adults. They couldn’t do enough for the children in our party to keep them from being bored. There is a kids club too where children can play in the shade supervised (under 4s need an adult). We managed to see 2 shows, burlesque and mama Mia. Both of these were fun and enjoyable. We also attended the karaoke night feeling a bit dubious but the kids absolutely loved it and they were so accommodating to the kids!

Location - Located a 5 minutes walk to the Famously known strip filled with bars & restaurants- although it can be a bit rowdy for the kids! We found if you walked out of the hotel and continued straight ahead it brought you out at the top of the strip with quieter bars & restaurants! The beach is around a 20/30 minute walk. Perfect locations to access to the Tourist Land Train which is superb value and is priced at €7 per adult (under 5 are free) if you buy a hop on hop off ticket for red and blue line you can go through the old town & to the marina! There is an Aldi 5 minutes walk away which is fab to stock up on essentials in your room!

Top restaurants around - We liked Kings Cross at the cross roads near the strip for lunch and they have happy hour until 7pm €3 a beer! We also really liked The cottage top of the strip (quieter side) for lovely English home made food. The garden is also lovely at the top of the strip before the cottage for tea! We enjoyed Big Shanghai a Chinese around a 10 minute walk too!

My sister and her children visited the splash & slide water park & booked this through the hotel reception - they had a fab day out and would highly recommend a trip there!

Pool - The resort has 3 pools, one main, one kids/baby & one indoor. All pools are lovely and accessible to all ages. Well kept and clean and plenty of sun-beds. The downside to this is - children are told that they cannot jump in, play with balls, or have floats such as rubber rings etc. We had a small splash ball the size of an orange and was quickly told we could not throw it for my niece to swim to! It appears all the children can do in the pool is swim which was a little boring for the youngest children. When we asked why we were just told “hotel policy”.

There is also a lovely mini mart at the front of the hotel open 830-12 and 1230-1700 which is stocked with some home comforts such as juice/dilute which was a god send as no restaurants do it so we often took a bottle filled with juice out for the children. They have everything you need to grab some bits for the room & the lady who works there is lovely and polite.

Reception desk was always helpful and polite & helped advise on places to see/do and helped arranged taxis

All in all a beautiful hotel and fabulous staff, location and rooms our only reason we may not return is due to the strict rules around the pool for our little boy.

Beautiful family friendly hotel, with all you need for a great holiday. Pools, grounds, apartments, all fab, friendly staff. Great location to get out and about. Bellux entertainment was amazing and kept the kids and adults entertained.
