Shambolic
I booked a two night stay in an 'executive' suite well in advance of our stay and confirmed with the hotel by telephone the week before (and payment was taken)
On arrival at the hotel after a very long drive our pre-booked and pre-paid room was not available???!!!! My teenage 5ft 8 daughter was then provided with a sofa bed,with her feet hanging over the end. Not the 'bed' I booked (and paid for). This being our only option on a Friday night, so far away from home.
'Over booking' a hotel would indicate greed takes priority over customer service. Refunding the price of one night as 'compensation' whilst a kind gesture in an attempt to rectify the poor service from the hotel, this did little to lighten the mood on our first night in the very dated and sad looking hotel.
We have never experienced such a shambles and would most definitely not return. Utterly shocking service from the ironically named 'Best' Western hotel.

Incompetent events team
Celebration of life for my Dad, should have been a positive day, but was full of stress due to the hotel . Sadly due to the lack of training of a new recruit, the hotel completely messed up. They planned to cater 20, not the 33 we paid for. Did not have the right number of chairs, tables. Didn’t have a projector or speaker ready. Didn’t have the right timing on the food or the important information on food allergies, all of which had been given to them in writing and confirmed by email.
Only by us arriving over an hour early this managed to get pulled together on fixed by the staff there on the day, but 15 minutes before people arrived we still didn’t know if enough food would be available.
I now would not trust them to run anything you value as no confidence.

Thank you, Kai, for your review, we are very sorry you had a negative experience unfortunately, staff training will take time to bring them up to speed as we like to ensure they are trained up to high level of standards.
However, due to the nature of hospitality industry it mainly forms around on the job training.
All our F&B staff are allergen trained on induction and there is always a supervisor present.

Three day break
The design of the hotel in its time was very modern and the central area still retains its ship like interior . Our stay was in a large suite which suited us . TV was large and had quite a few channels . Heating the room took a little while but all in all our stay was more than just ok !
Breakfast was plentiful cakes fruit etc fine
There was a problem with tea and coffee machines causing queues but a little wait was no problem . Special mention to Therese one of the breakfast staff a very pleasant lady that got on with her job with a smile .
Overall stay was very good but the hotel is getting quite jaded especially the rooms furniture and Sauna /steam area more than a few bob is needed to spruce it up
However we would book again if there are deals going !!

Disappointing!
The hotel itself if very good and the food excellent. However, the lack of good organisation and management spoiled our weekend.
There were 50 of us who had all prepaid for our rooms and preordered our meals.
Arrival information did not seemed to have filtered through to the kitchen or the serving staff.
The hotel was overbooked and understaffed. Friends who arrived on the Saturday found that there was no room for even though they had already paid. At least 4 of our party had to be transported to another cheaper hotel by taxi. They arrived late at the festive dinner and their evening began very badly I believe that another group had a similar experience. As far as I was aware no senior manager was.available .
I find it strange that guests Who have already paid should find they did not have a room and would be wary about booking a weekend stay
However the food was good. The staff friendly and struggled to give good service.

We always have a duty manager on site to assist staff and our guests to ensure our operations run smoothly as best possible.

Dissapointing
On our 170 mile journey to this hotel i received a phone call to check we were still coming, I informed the caller we'd be there in an hour. When we arrived we were told there was no room available and they would find us a room in another hotel! We said we'd booked that hotel due to it's location as we were visiting friends and family locally. The receptionist was very apologetic. She spent sometime on her computer and somehow managed to miraculously make a room appear.
The room was a disabled room, it was very small and rather tired. Facilities were adequate but difficult to use as a very tall person.
Breakfast was dissapointing, watery orange juice, cold plates and luke warm food.
This once lovely hotel seems to have deteriorated. What a shame.
On a positive note the staff on reception and in the dinning room were lovely.
