Ambiance familiale à l Hôtel MALIKA
Nous avons passé un très agréable séjour à l Hôtel MALIKA de NUNGWI .
Celui ci est en centre ville : proximité des commerces et des bars
( un peu bruyant la nuit ) et à 500 m de la plage.
petit hotel de 32 chambres . Celles- ci sont spacieuses et confortables avec une clim
silencieuse et efficace .... également , une très grande piscine .
L accueil du manager KHALED et de toute son équipe est très sympathique .
Les serveuses ne savent pas quoi faire pour vous être agréables .
Mention spéciale à Caroline , toujours souriante et agréable .
le chef parle un peu Français et vous prépare de bons repas : l omelette du matin est délicieuse....
En conclusion , on a très envie d y retourner .....

A éviter !
Hôtel bruyant ,un refuge pour chiens est situé juste a côté! piscine vétuste : sol et peinture abîmés , nourriture répétitive.
Seule la literie est bonne et la chambre propre Toutefois des odeurs nauséabondes remontaient de la douche et étaient très désagréables

The owner/manager Khaled was nice as were the staff in this hotel
Grounds were quite nice albeit quite small
A short walk to the beach( but through dirt treks filled with pot holes so was unpleasant to walk).
Tea/coffee facilities provided but no milk
Cons
We paid $200/night and this was a very unacceptable standard even in Tanzania.
No sea views as described even from 3rd floor
No telephone in room to communicate with reception
Damp patches in room
Shower got blocked on first night but sorted the next day.
Basin tap all rusted as well as mirror (for a 4* not acceptable)
Shower pressure very low and oddly placed shower head
No place to keep our toiletries in the bathroom
Dogs barking outside
Breakfast quite basic

Was average at best
Doesn't feel like a 4 star hotel.
What I liked:
Aesthetically the grounds by the swimming pool look nice and are surrounded by palm trees.
The staff are very friendly and welcoming, including the manager Khalid.
About 5 - 8 mins walk to the beach (depending on which side of Nungwi beach you are going to) so not far (hotels directly by the beach are at a premium so this place is more cost effective).
What I didnt like:
Supposed to be sea views from 3rd and 4th floor rooms but you can't see the sea.
Issues with plumbing in the bathroom. Shower drain got blocked every time I took a shower so the water came through the drain near the toilet and as a result, the whole bathroom floor got flooded each time.
You can use the shower in 2 ways: either the shower head, which unless you're between 6 - 7 feet tall is too high to reach and isn't adjustable or use the shower faucet, which is too low and therefore not at height level.
They gave me damp and smelly towels the first two days so I gave up and just used my own after.
Damp stains and marks on room wall.
I had to ask for a new bathroom hand soap after the one I received on arrival was almost finished. The standard is housekeeping just gives you a new one when the old one has almost finished. You shouldn't have to ask.
There was a power outtage when I first arrived and it had lasted for about 6 hours (not their fault but worth bearing in mind as it might happen now and again).
WiFi cuts out sometimes (that might not be their fault but an issue with the area, but again worth bearing in mind).
No phone line in room so can't even call reception (I was told they are working on it and have ordered phones but there is a delay that is out of their control).
Aircon is placed directly above the bed so you feel it blowing on your face, so sleeping is uncomfortable.
You're only provided with 2 complimentary 600ml bottles of water when you first arrive and you need to purchase water after that but vast majority of hotels I have stayed at give you two complimentary bottles everyday.
Breakfast is basic (not much choice and one morning even gave us stewed kidney!) and dinner is expensive at $15 (compared to Stone Town hotels and restaurants as well as restaurants at Nungwi beach where on average its about $7-$10).
I mentioned its a short walk to the beach, but what ruins that walk is the underdevelopment of the roads. They are full of mud and puddles and you're struggling with cars and motorbikes for space. Plus there are no street lights in places so you need your phone to see where you're going at night. If you're here for more than a few days and want less stress when getting to the beach and back then it may be worth paying the premium of a beach front hotel.
The hotel is near the bars and clubs in the area so you hear music in your room literally all night (the clubs are open until 4am - 5am). They seem to be open everyday.
There are lots of dogs barking from a compound next to the hotel and they are the most vocal at night. You hear them arguing very loudly from your room. The noise problem is not their fault but worth bearing in mind.

Safe & Great Location
My friends and I enjoyed our stay at Malika Hotel. Although arriving pretty late at night; we were properly greeted and welcomed by Khalid (property manager). In addition, we were able to order food which was pretty good (breakfast and dinner). The property is very nice on the outside, and definitely provided an African cultural type of feel to it. The rooms were standard in size, but could use some polishing up in a few areas. Hot water was an issue, but was told during departure that we needed to press a certain button which we possibly forgot during our arrival.
Nevertheless, Khalid provided excellent hospitality and ensured that we were accommodated throughout our entire stay. He is very hands-on, and does his best to provide high quality service. This, in fact, accumulated 5 stars in my book!
